The first known production of 7up (under that name) was in 1928. Prior to that, from about 1924 through 1928, the brand was known as Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda and as was the creation of Charles Grigg who was employed by Vess Jones of the Vess Company. Grigg formed the Howdy Corporation sometime in the 1920’s but once 7up became a money maker, Grigg changed the name to the Seven-Up Company around 1936.
Sold to Philip Morris in 1978. Merged with Dr. Pepper in 1986 (Houston Based). U.S rights now belong to Cadbury Schweppes, while international rights belong to Pepsi-Cola. The Dr Pepper Snapple Group was spun off from Cadbury Schweppes in 2008; it merged with Keurig Green Mountain in 2018 to form Keurig Dr Pepper. |
