| | | | | | Extra info | The Groppi family, originally from Garlasco, arrived in Cilavegna in 1876 and opened a small grocery store in Piazza Borghetto. In 1907 four of the nine children, Mario, Francesco, Luigi and Emilio, started a trade in colonials in a small room in Via Roma. Mario thus dedicated himself to his experiments to produce the type of liqueur that would later become his fortune, the famous Millefiori. The liqueur was a tasty and aromatic cream which was obviously baptized "Crema Millefiori Groppi". Originally it should have been called only Millefiori Groppi, but a dispute with the Cucchi distilleries (which produced a similar liqueur) caused the name change. Meanwhile, Amaro Balilla, Filamar, China Fra Martino and the famous Groppi Soda also established themselves, which, according to the advertising of the time, not even a camel could resist, and many other products known throughout Italy and exported to Europe. , Somalia, Australia and Venezuela.
Due to a sudden illness of Mario, in 1934 the reins of the company were taken over by his wife Margherita who, with skill and wisdom, knew how to manage and expand it, reaching over 120 employees. The company's activity reached the daily production of 100,000 bottles of spuma and thirst-quenching sodas and 6,000 bottles of liqueurs.
The government rewarded the modesty of this diligent family with the honor of commander to the owner Mario Groppi in 1948 and of knight of labor to Mrs. Groppi Margherita in 1954. |
