Extra info Friedrich (Frederick) Wilhelm Stange Wetzel was born in 1856 in Rotenburg, Germany, and arrived in Chile the year next, together with his parents, Daniel Stange Leimbach and Catharina Elisabeth Wetzel-Ulm. In 1884 he married Emile Juliane Ditzel Schellhase, with whom he has 8 children; Olga, Osvaldo, Leonardo, Ellinor, Heriberto, Edwin, Ena and Emile.
In 1888, Stange became associated with the also a German immigrant, Augusto Trautmann, who was already dedicated to manufacturing of beer, destined for the thirsty Germanic throats of Puerto Montt. They founded the brewery set up on Urmeneta Street in Puerto Montt.

After the death of Federico Stange, in 1902, the factory was maintained as Sucesión Federico Stange. In 1910, the succession acquires the Augusto Trautmann brewery, after the death of the latter, also a German immigrant, who was dedicated to brewing since 1888. Under the technical direction of his eldest son, Osvaldo Stange Ditzel, the establishment expands, due to the demand for beer increased year by year. Along with the above, machinery was installed to increase production, manufacturing and improve a product that responded to ever-increasing consumption.

In 1921, the brewery was left in hands of Osvaldo and Leonardo Stange Ditzel, who under the company name, Stange Hermanos continued with the company until 1932.
The brewery obtains the Gold Medal at the La Paz Exhibition, Bolivia, in 1925, and in 1934, the Grand Prize at the Chiloé Regional Exhibition.
In 1933, and After a capital increase, the company is acquired by a new company commercial, called ”Stange y Cía. Ltda.”, and made up of Messrs. Heriberto Stange, Osvaldo Stange, Arturo Hartung, José Luis Wistuba and Guillermo Rensinghoff. Always maintaining the technical administration of Osvaldo Stange Ditzel.
In 1946, faced with the impossibility of continuing to import hops from Europe due to the Second World War, the partners transferred their assets to the firm ”Kusch y Lyng Ltda”., which is now called “Cervecería Austral de Puerto “Mont.”
