| | | | | | | | Extra info | Per Leon Leon Polinovsky:
The brothers Yosef and Yitzchak Rubanenko were the most prominent sellers of the shears in the city starting in the 1920s. At first, they had a booth for selling trimmings, and then they expanded and opened sales booths throughout Tel Aviv. The first stand was erected at the entrance to the 'House of Hanoch'. Yitzhak Rubanenko even states in one of his letters to the authorities (year 1949): "I am one of the veterans and pioneers of the settlement and have passed through the seven gates of hell. I am the owner of the first hair cutting kiosk in Tel Aviv, on Herzl St. corner Yehuda Halevi St. My children and I worked quite hard in the war for existence from early in the morning until late at night." After the establishment of the state, when the Rubanenko brothers were already the owners of a mineral water and juice factory on Gat-Ramon Street, they asked to renew the license to operate the kiosk, but were refused, on the grounds that the kiosk interfered with pedestrian traffic on Yehuda Halevi Street. The many pleas and appeals were of no use and finally the historical kiosk was closed. |
