Korek had two plants during the Communist era. One in Klasterec that made all the coloured crowns, and one in Modrice (outside of Brno) that made all the embossed crowns. The name of both factories were simply Korek. There was no competition at that time, but things changed, and in the Czech Republic, the factories split up into Subeko and Modricky, and both made coloured crowns as the embossed crowns went out of business.
Before the 1970s, the sideways K wasn't used as a factory sign. Instead, they used KOREK written in capital letters. Subeko was the new name used after Czechoslovakia was divided into Czech Republic and Slovak Republic, so around 1992-93 the company name changed to Subeko Korek. |
