In 1908, Georgia enterrd statewide Prohibition. National breweries were forced to pull their agents out of the state. Georgia brewers survived by converting to selling ice and non-intoxicating beverages. In 1916, Augusta Brewing Company was forced to change its name to Augusta Ice & Beverage Company to comply with Georgia law. Plans were announced to spend $10,000 to remodel their plant for the manufacture of non-alcoholic beverages. One such beverage was Necto Punch "that reminds you of old Madeira wine" an ad said. It was available at soda fountains at 5 cents each. Another was Caro-Cola from the Charleston S.C. fim bottled by the Augusta Ice & Beverage Company. John B. Schweers had named manager of the Augusta Ice & Beverage Company but in 1919, August A. Schweers became superintendant of the Augusta Ice & Beverage Company. The firm produced a cereal beverage or "near beer" called "Queen" and soft drinks including Pin a'pa from Cuba, Imperial Ice Cream and Imperial Chocolate Milk, malt syrups, flavoring extract and ice.
