| | | | | | Extra info | According to text obtained from the Allegheny-Kiski Valley Historical Society in Tarentum, the Anchor Brewing Company, which was also known as Brackenridge Brewing Co., opened along Sixth Avenue in 1897 under a German immigrant who had run a successful ice business. Spearheaded by its most famous product, Old Anchor Beer, the brewery had a successful run until its closing in 1920 under Prohibition.
The brewery reopened following the ban's repeal in 1933, but folded permanently less than 10 years later under the lingering effects.
It could not be determined what the property was used for in the four decades after its closing. No Allegheny County real estate records reflect the owner history during that time period.
But in 1980, the building was bought by Krishnan and Bhanumathi Pandalai, who used it for their water-based paint manufacturing company, Pandalai Coatings.
