Estrella Damm was created by two Alsatians who arrived in Barcelona in 1872 to escape the franco-Prussian War: August Küntzmann Damm and his wife Melanie. In 1876 they founded the Sociedad Anonima Damm and opened a brewery where they produced their first beer: a light lager, adapted to the climate and flavors of the Mediterranean, which was called The "Lager Beer of the Mediterranean". It was marketed under the name "Strasburger beer", although the symbol, a red five-pointed star, would have made it known to people as "Star" or "The Star". In 1907 the beer received international recognition at fairs in Rome, London, Antwerp, Paris and Genoa. In 1921 it changed its name for the first time. Because of the symbol that made it famous, it was renamed "Gold Star". In 1929 he participated in the Universal Exhibition in Barcelona. At that time the entire transport and distribution had been entrusted to horse-drawn carriages. In 1939, before the Francoist victory in the Spanish Civil War, the symbol of the Red Star disappeared from the packaging, becoming gold. The reason is to go back to the popular name given by the people or "Golden Star". In 1991 the name was changed for the second time to "Estrella Damm". In terms of corporate image, although it retained the golden color for the staff, it regained the color of the original Red Star, becoming the corporate color of the brand. Since then, the brand has continued to grow and expand around the world, always positioning itself as "Mediterranean beer", through their advertising campaigns and sponsorship in all types of events, especially cultural and sports. |
