| | | | | Extra info | In the middle ages, the Spanish conquerors built a sluice in Boezinge and next to it a brewery was created. Since the Flemish dialect for sluice is sas, they named the brewery SAS. During WW1 the entire region as well as the brewery was bombed and completely destroyed, which is why we there are no records left before that time. But it seems that the brewing started in the 17th century, what would make this one of the oldest breweries of Belgium.
Sylvère Leroy ( 1885 - 1961 ) and his wife Rachel Sys ( 1881 - 1954 ) bought a ruined farmhouse in the village of Boezinge and again launched a brewery and named their company Brouwerij Het Sas in 1924.
During the Second World War, the plant continued brewing under son Charles . To date, it is still active brewery located in the village of Boezinge.
Brewery Het Sas has close cooperation with Brouwerij Van Eecke . |
