Sturtevant Company was founded in Hartford, Connecticut in 1871 by Francis Crayton Sturtevant, a Civil War medic who was profoundly affected by the number of deaths to soldiers, civilians and animals from rampant bacterial infection caused after surgery. He developed the first antiseptic product to battle “bad” bacteria.
Columbia Healing Powder, as it was called then, was the first medicated powder created to cure skin irritations and infections while also protecting skin and keeping it healthy.
