In 1924, businessman Cástor Gómez Navarro founded the La Tropical beer company in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , but the beginning of the Civil War led to bankruptcy, being acquired by a group of businessmen who created the Sociedad Industrial Canaria (SICAL). The production of this new society went beyond the field of beer, dedicated to other sectors such as coffee, chocolate and even fishing.

The inauguration in 1960 of the Barranco Seco factory, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, marked the beginning of the expansion of the company, becoming the main producer of beers in the Canary Islands and one of the largest Canarian companies. Its commercial name was Tropical , which continues to be marketed.

Merged into La Compañía Cervecera de Canarias in 1994
Now a subsidiary of SABMiller
