| | | | | | | Extra info | In the late nineteenth century a restless English Lord, Mr. William Cunnington, took a long trip for geological exploration of various sites in India. He discovered that the some of the Inidan natives used a very stimulating and digestive brew of which the main ingredients were quassia amara extract and quinine. Returning to London, he produced a soda with the same features plus carbonation: the beginning of Indian tonic called Cunnington.
In Argentina, during the 1920s, Juan Vicente San Giacomo obtained authorization to import base concentrate and develop the Indian tonic . He then established the company, La Argentina SA, with the formula and brand purchased from Lord W. Cunnington. The company also produced a variety of soft drinks and obtained a patent for Neuss soda, which was marketed under the name Belgrano. Another of the company's trademarks was El Gnomo and during the 1940s, Indian Tonic Cunnington, Ginger Ale Cunnington, 2L lima-limón, naranja Neuss and pomelo Neuss were introduced. During much of the 20th century, Cunnigton was bottled under Alefer S.A. located at Avenida San Juan No. 2844. Since 1997, the drinks have been bottled and distributed by Prodea - Productos de Agua S.A. |
