1898 The company was registered on 6 October, to acquire a business of mineral water, chocolate and cracker manufacturers.
The firm manufactured mineral waters, chocolate and crackers and by 1904 employed 700 workers in its factory at Chapel Field.
1914 Directors: Edward James Caley, Frederick W. Caley, J. P. Tilley, and A. O. Sargeaunt.
1918, they were bought out by The African and Eastern Trade Corporation, who, in 1932, sold the firm on to John Mackintosh & Sons Limited of Halifax.
1922 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. Manufacturers of Cocoa, Chocolates (Milk, Plain, Fancy and Covering), Christmas Crackers, Santa Claus Stockings.
1932 Company acquired by John Mackintosh and Sons Ltd.
In 1980, now as Rowntree-Mackintosh, they were bought out by Nestle who, within eight years transferred all production to York. The Chapel Field factory was demolished and in 2004, a shopping centre built on the site. |
