Brewer/bottler #7012 | | | Address | 2 STATIONSSTRAAT, ALKEN, 3570 |
| | | | | | | Extra info | It all started in 1959. Three Belgian breweries decided to join forces to defy the omnipotence of Coca-Cola in the area of soft drinks.
Two partner companies, Lamot in Mechelen and Meiresonne from Gent secured the cooperation of a third player, the brewery Alken. Their partnership was shortened to the business and sober COBOCO. This stood for "Colibri Bottling Company," an English name which is very reminiscent of the full name of Coca Cola. The three conspirators apparently wanted to set the tone in terms of their ambitions in the Belgian market.
The Colibri Bottling Company was fully absorbed in 1990 by Alken-Maes Breweries NV. However, the bottling and the marketing of the brand has continued since 1991 by the company SA Villers-Monopole. |
