| | | | | | | Extra info | Part of a larger network of stores that resulted from a merger between grocery store chain Thrift-Faxon and the Danahy Packing Company. By 1937 the network grew to 147 stores after Danahy-Faxon purchased the Larkin Food Stores.
Eventually became Nu-Way stores, which became Acme Markets.
Danahy-Faxon and Nu-Way were under the same ownership (Nu-Way was Danahy-Faxon’s supermarket operation) and were purchased by American Stores in 1946. In 1961, the stores were rebranded as Acme. Acme later was bought out by Bells Supermarkets which closed their doors in 1993. |
