| | | | | Extra info | Brouwerij Van Eecke, also known as Brouwerij Gouden Leeuw (Golden Lion Brewery) is a Belgian family brewery in Watou , a borough of Poperinge . The brewery in 1862 created an area where since the 17th century, is brewed.
The brewery was after the Second World War fame with the abbey beers, Kapittel . The flagship of the company is the Poperings Hommelbier , a blond -fermented beer of 7.5%, which is on the market since 1991. It is a goedgehopt beer, hence the name: bumblebee means hops in the local dialect. Hommelbier is not only popular in the Westhoek , but is also readily available outside the region. It is brewed at Van Eecke, but the bearing and bottling is done at Brouwerij Leroy in Boezinge . Brouwerij Van Eecke and brewery Sas (or Leroy) have a very close cooperation.
