| | | | | Extra info | The tradition of brewing beer in this region dates back to the 16th century - in 1524 King Ludwig II of Jagiellon gave the city the privilege of brewing wheat beer (although beer was produced there before). In the seventeenth century there was a rapid development of brewing and there were over 80 breweries . Industrial production began in the second half of the 19th century - in 1871 a new brewery in Banská Bystrica was opened. The annual production was then about 5,000. Hectoliters (practically every work was done manually) - beer named Banskobystrický Porter and Ležiak enjoyed good reputation and were exported among others. To Vienna and Budapest .
The brewery was owned by the Heritz family, from whom Jan Be?usz bought it in 1942 and modernized it, increasing production to 20,000. Hectoliters per year (from which only 5% were sold in the city itself anyway).
After 1945, the plants were nationalized and production capacity was further increased. In 1968 , the construction of a new, modern brewery, started in 1971 under the name of Browar Urpin and returned to the name, Banskobystrický Pivovar in 2007.
