| | | | | Extra info | Already in the middle of the 15th century there were three beer breweries in Murau. In 1495 they came to the Raffaltplatz, the only one still in operation. In the 16th century the number grew to seven. A major contributor to the fact that the Murau brewer survived the confusion of the 19th century was Valentin Bauer (owner from 1823 to 1856), who was also elected as the first mayor of Murau in 1848. But also his successors as brewery owners always tried to adapt the enterprise to the economic and technical conditions.
In 1906-1908, the municipality established the power station Murau to supply the brewery with electricity. In 1910 the company was transformed into a cooperative. During the Second World War the hiring of the factory was threatened because of the lack of labor. By the support of Adolf von Schwarzenberg, which turned off some of his followers to brew, however, this time could also be bridged.
In the 1980s and 1990s, the successful market strategies led to a marked increase in production. |
