Extra info Clipper emerged in 1956, at the hands of brothers Mario and Octavio Juan Gómez, in a garage in Ciudad Jardín (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), at the dawn of the first phase of economic modernization of the Canary Islands. Its survival until today is due to the fact that, initially, it was easier to make soft drinks in the Islands than to import them by boat, thanks to which other brands such as Baya-Baya emerged. Over the years, the large soft drink companies created their own factories in the Archipelago, where the entire mixture was manufactured or, as in the case of other brands, the molasses already mixed was imported and the carbonated water was added to the Islands.
Later, with the increase in merchandise traffic in the ports of La Luz and Santa Cruz , the big brands managed to impose their lemon and orange soft drinks, displacing the Canarian brands. However, despite the supremacy of Coca-Cola and Pepsi among cola drinks and Fanta , Mirinda and Schweppes among orange and lemon, there was never a soda that would overshadow strawberry flavor. Clipper remained with that flavor in the market, although its other flavors came to disappear momentarily.
Years later, Clipper resurged strongly during the 80s, promoting itself as a representative product of the Canary Islands. This led him to recover his range of lemon and orange flavors (almost like the original flavor) and, subsequently, launching a new apple flavor. With the turn of the century, Embotelladora de Canarias recommenced Clipper's advertising, particularly on television, with fundamentally comic ads. In 2006, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary, the image of the brand was renewed, stylizing the graphics of the labels.
