| | | | | | | | Extra info | The Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg (Castle Brewery) in its present form was opened in 1871 and joined the Munich Unionsbrauerei (now Löwenbräu ) in 1920. Since 1955, the brewery has been owned by the Wittelsbach family. In 1976 Luitpold Prinz von Bayern (Luitpold prince of Bavaria) took over the castle and brewery. As Managing Director, he focused on the niche strategy . The brewery specialized in dark beer . Since then, the degree of recognition of the beers (especially by the Kaltenberger Ritterturnier ), which has been taking place since 1979, and production have been considerably increased. In 1980 the Marthabräu in Fürstenfeldbruck was taken over. In 2003 a close cooperation was established with the Postbrauerei Thannhausen. The Postbrauerei remained an independent family business. [Since then, further breweries have been taken over as in 2007 of Holzkirchner Oberbräu. By licensing, beers are brewed and marketed worldwide under the name Kaltenberg. |
