| | | | | | | | Extra info | In 1888, brothers Alberto and Eladio del Valle, financed by Bernardo de la Ballina and Ángel Fernández, acquire the necessary machinery to start the production of cider in Villaviciosa.
In 1900, the partners formed the collective society "Valle, Ballina y Fernández invest and bet to centralize the production of El Gaitero, which until then was scattered in warehouses and warehouses throughout Villaviciosa, in one place, La Espuncia. The company adopted the name "El Gaitero" on the basis of a painting by José Fernández-Cuevas dated in 1886. In 1915, the company constructed its own bottle factory, in the face of glass supply problems. The activity of this factory would cease years later, although its chimney remains today as an emblem of the company's development.
The second of the golden moments of the company is lived in the 50s, with the management of José Cardín Fernández (1905-1992), nephew of Obdulio and a doctor by profession. He is considered the refounder of the company after the difficult moments experienced by the entity, and the commerce sector in general, after the wars. José Cardín modernized the facilities and machinery.
In the 21st century, El Gaitero cider continues to be the image of Asturias, which is why the company has received important recognitions, such as the Silver Medal of Asturias (2010). |
