Founder Félix Solís Fernández and his wife Leonor Yáñez move from Félix’s home town in Villanueva de los Infantes to Valdepeñas. He buys the renowned Casa del Huerto del Cura, the house in the priest’s garden. The winery has retained the original warehouses, the tinajas (huge earthenware jars), the barrel cellars, the underground cave and the typical layout of La Mancha’s manor houses. It is the current headquarters of the company.
1962
Félix Solís buys a bottling company in Madrid. The wine is transported in wooden barrels and then hand bottled. The bottles are then distributed in a small van to the bars and restaurants in Madrid. This is the launch of “Viña Albali”.
1968
The regulatory body for Valdepeñas Denominación de Origen determines that producers must produce and bottle their wines at their original location. Félix subsequently moves the company to its current location by the national highway that links Madrid and Cadiz. |
